Facial Cosmetic Surgery
Facial cosmetic surgery focuses on improving your face’s visual appearance and proportions. These surgeries can use various techniques and technologies to achieve the desired outcome. Dr. Justin M. Young can help you better understand what surgical options you might have to change the look of your face.
Common Types of Facial Cosmetic Surgery
There are over 160 board-certified facial cosmetic surgery procedures, with new types being added almost every year. Here are some of the most common and most requested types of facial cosmetic surgery:
- Rhinoplasty: A rhinoplasty surgery reshapes the nose’s bone, cartilage, and skin. This procedure can be done for cosmetic reasons, if a patient doesn’t like the look or shape of their nose, or to improve breathing in patients whose noses have become blocked or otherwise obstructed, such as a deviated septum.
- Liposuction: Liposuction is a procedure where subcutaneous fat cells are removed from different face areas using a suction device. As people age or gain weight, the fat cells of the face increase in size, and this procedure aims to reduce the number of fat cells, giving a slimmer, more taught appearance.
- Brow lift: A brow lift elevates and firms the skin and tissue of the brow and forehead to reduce the sagging of the brows and eliminate deep wrinkles on the forehead.
- Fat transfer: A fat transfer procedure relocates fat from one part of the body to the face. This is done to even out facial asymmetries and reduce the visible signs of aging.
- Facelift: A facelift is a procedure to tighten facial skin and return a face to a more youthful look. During the procedure, the facial skin is cut on both sides near the ears, tightened, then excess skin and facial tissue are removed.
- Ear repositioning: An ear repositioning surgery moves the ears back towards the head and into a more natural position closer and more flush with the head. This is done for patients whose ears are further out from the head than average and is done by reshaping the cartilage of the ear and removing any excess tissue.
- Eyelid surgery: Eyelid surgery is done to repair sagging or drooping eyelids. With age, the muscles around the eye begin to slacken, and fat cells accumulate around the eye area. This surgery repairs the aging muscles, removes excess tissue, and returns the eye area to a younger appearance.
- Chin augmentation: A chin augmentation surgery corrects a weak chin by reshaping the jawbone, grafting on extra bone, and removing excess skin and degraded musculature.

Skin rejuvenation procedures try to turn back the clock and reverse the effects of photoaging. Your doctor will determine if the effects of photoaging are mild, moderate, or severe using either the Fitzpatrick skin type classification or the Glogau photoaging scale. They then recommend treatments that can help reverse some or most of the damage the sun has done over the years.
Dr. Justin M. Young, DDS, MD, can help you understand your skin and the aging process holistically from multiple angles. He can examine your skin and recommend procedures that can revitalize your youthful complexion.
Common Skin Rejuvenation Techniques and Procedures
There are several different procedures that your doctor might recommend to help rejuvenate your facial skin. These procedures could involve topical or surgical treatments and range in intensity and invasiveness.
Some common procedures many people use to restore their complexion include:
Photorejuvenation
Photorejuvenation uses laser pulses to revitalize and invigorate your skin. This treatment bombards your skin with high-intensity light which stimulates dormant cells and promotes collagen production. This helps to minimize discoloration from age spots, tighten up wrinkles, firm sagging skin, or eliminate old acne scars.
Facial fillers
Facial fillers are a group of injectable gels that help reshape and recontour the face and tighten the skin. Your doctor pinpoints specific locations which have lost some firmness and injects a gelatinous solution into the area to plump it up.
These can be very effective, but they are temporary and require repeated treatments to maintain the look. One of the most common gel-based fillers is hyaluronic acid, which can last up to a year between refresher treatments.
Laser resurfacing
Laser resurfacing, also known as Laser and Intense Pulse Light Treatment, uses high-power fractional laser pulses to heat the outer layer of skin. This heating process removes the outer layer of skin, stimulating new skin cell growth to give you a younger, firmer complexion.
This treatment can effectively reverse age spots, damage caused by acne, or overexposure to the sun.
Botox
Botulinum Toxin Type A, commonly known as Botox, is an injected anti-aging treatment. Your doctor will inject a purified form of the botulinum bacteria into specific face areas to provide temporary paralysis and lift to the area. Botox can be used to treat crow’s feet, give chin definition, increase lip plumpness, lift eyebrows, and tighten the forehead.
Chemical peels
A chemical peel uses a mixture of different chemicals to remove the outermost layer of facial skin. The chemicals exfoliate a layer of skin, causing your body to grow a new, healthier outer layer. There are four general types of chemical peels ranging in intensity: AHA peels, BHA peels, TCA peels, and Phenol peels.
A chemical peel will not fix deeper scars or wrinkles but helps rejuvenate your facial skin and restore a youthful glow.
